This series by Cristina Huarte is calligraphic: a projective character machine that sets into motion the writing of the real from a materiality that is not, obviously, figurative but sensory; a writing of the meaning made visual, a message without code but one that establishes a relationship of continuity between the sensation of the artist, the serialised image as a series of accidents and the viewer who reads signs marked by difference and by fate.
They are drawings burned with a torch behind a glass, as if it were a prehistoric painting ritual. The rituality of fire. It is the verification of a procedure in which the work of art is and is not at the same time, in which the meaning shines through the gap of disappearance. It is writing beyond conventions, which names and is nameless, which scratches, profiles, punctures, burns, establishing an unprecedented approach, which in moments is hallucinatory.

Porque “She likes to burn”.
She’s Always Dancing que diría Neil Young.

Cristina Huarte presents signs that refer to a pre-literate conception of writing. The Latin scribere (to write), the Greek skarifáomai (to scratch an outline). This is what Huarte does: inscribe the material with the logos of the sensation, marking it, leaving a imprint and an indent, in search of the beautiful (kalós, kalligraphía). This is nothing to do with the Platonic idea of beauty as true aspiration but the dissolution of that idea, a search for the conflict between concretion and transience. Like fire. Because She likes to burn. A fire that, at the same time, is and is not in constant flow. Like the sensation. Like writing, that daily ritual that cultivates the life of anyone —anonymous readers — day after day. Signs and symbols with which we delve deeper into lesser or greater codified paths that light up as we advance, like a torch thrown into the well of history.
Cristina Huarte presents in these boxes the writing of the dance that is life, love, excess, acquiescence, ‘an ever-living fire, with measures of it kindling, and measures going out’. She’s Always Dancing as Neil Young would say.
